Compare Any Two Test Runs

You can compare any two test runs even if one of the test runs did not complete successfully. All differences are shown to you including missing results. Comparing two test runs allows you to see what the differences are between those two runs, even if the resulting contents of those two test runs are different. This is very beneficial when your scripts end up getting modified over time due to changes in the target test application. You can always compare any two sets of results.

Compare Test Runs to Last Known Good

Once you have captured a test run you can mark any of the captured snapshots as the last known good image for that snapshot. From that point on you can compare your test runs to the last known good image to determine what changes there may be between your selected run and the last known good images. The last known good comparison tells you the differences between the selected run and what the results are supposed to be.

Any run comparison, either between test runs or a comparison of a run against the last known good images is instant even if there are thousands of captured snapshots in the run. There is simply no waiting for comparison results.

Easily Specify Ignore Areas in Captured Images

Oftentimes the snapshots you capture in your scripts contain information that is dynamic, such as dates, file paths, etc.. You know that content will change and you are not interested in it, so you would rather those areas of the snapshot image be ignored so those dynamic changes don't get flagged as differences when comparing your test runs. Master Test allows you to specify any number of ignore areas in your snapshot images, and they can be created at any time without having to recapture any of your test runs. This allows you to dynamically update the ignore areas as needed and still compare against previous test runs utilizing the newly defined ignore areas. This is a very powerful feature that lets you focus on only the meaningful changes between test runs.

Define Watch Areas for Conditional Execution of Scripts

You can define watch areas which are simply any area in your test application's UI. These watch areas can then be interrogated to determine if a condition exists, which lets you conditionally execute scripts. For instance, you can define a watch area that is the "next page" button in your application's toolbar. If the button is enabled then your script can perform a page down. If the button is not enabled you can quit your page down processing. This simple mechanism is very powerful and allows you to conditionally execute scripts based on any condition or situation that may occur in your test application.

Call Scripts from Within Scripts

Master Test scripts can be called from within other scripts. This allows you to use functional decomposition techniques to organize your scripts so they can be utilized wherever that script's functionality is needed. Combined with watch areas, you can create complex conditional logic without any need for programming.

Visually Display the Script Call Hierarchy So You Know What Calls What

You can display the call hierarchy for all your scripts to see what scripts get called by other scripts. This eliminates having to look at your script's content to determine what calls are made and is essential when you have complex scripts.

In many applications visual fidelity is important and small changes in that fidelity are expected or tolerated. Master Test has numerous features to help you quickly identify the nature and magnitude of the snapshot differences when comparing test runs. Master Test has ad hoc filtering for pixel and color magnitude changes, as well as heat maps that show the relative and absolute amount of change involved in two snapshots. These features let you quickly isolate the differences you are interested in and identify and safely ignore unimportant changes.

You can set breakpoints and trace the execution of your scripts making it easy to identify and fix problems in your scripts.

Watch Area Debugging

When you turn on watch area debugging when you play back your script, it shows the decision processing of your watch areas so you can immediately see the watch are image captures, their comparison results, and the conditional result of the watch iterations. This is essential for determining watch area script behavior.

Export and Import Database Script Definitions

One person can create scripts to exercise an application and they can export their database definition. Other users can simply import that database definition into their own databases (even if they already have scripts in their database) and they can use the scripts without having to make any modifications. The script definitions are in XML form and can be stored in your source control system for safe keeping and versioning.
